Write Forever: EVE 154 – A night of qualifiers at Mean Grrrls

Back back back again for another EVE show! Last time around it was EVE x The World 2 which had it all. Shocks! Surprises! Darts! Blood! What will tonight bring?

Most of the matches on tonight's show are qualifying matches for next month's Clockwork Carnage, the eventual winner of which will be able to challenge for any EVE championship.

As noted by F4W Online, The Clockwork Carnage match is a multi-stage match with the following structure and rules:

• 8 competitors, two stages, one winner
• 2 competitors start the match selected at random
• Every 2 minutes, another randomly selected competitor enters
• Until all 8 competitors have entered, any competitor who is pinned or submits is eliminated
• Once the final competitor enters, all remaining competitors enter a 15-minute scoring period
• During those 15 minutes, every pinfall or submission scores one fall
• When time expires, the competitor with the most falls wins

So let's buckle in and try not to convince ourselves it's a good idea to pair Mean Grrrls with the 2004 classic Mean Girls because it's already far too late at my house.

Emersyn Jayne vs Chantal Jordan

The opening Spirit of EVE Rules match between Emersyn Jayne and Chantal Jordan wasn't as brutal, on the surface, as last week's offering which was good news for Jayne. Still, Jordan found new and exciting ways to drop someone on their neck with some hiiiiiigh angle suplexes sprinkled throughout the match.

Also, a Meteora and Ki Krusher onto a pair of chairs setup in the ring? Be still my heart. The Ki Krusher was my finisher of choice in my backyard wrestling days so I'm always excited to see it busted out. Jayne got back at Jordan for the head drops with a pair of Minge Drivers, one of which sent Jordan through a table on the floor.

So, not a bloodbath but maybe just as brutal for those precious, precious neck bones.

Emersyn Jayne took the win and became the first person to advance to Clockwork Carnage, where I don't think she'll need to worry about being stabbed with darts or hit with one of those weird little bat things that make a shitload of noise!

Violet Nyte vs Nahir Robles vs Alexxis Falcon vs Anita Vaughan

In the second qualifier, we had a four-way elimination match. I'll stand on my soapbox now and proudly say that I think any match involving more than two competitors/teams should always be elimination. I think it's the ECW in my heart that just won't die.

I like that Alexxis Falcon steps through the curtain and immediately looks like she's smelled the worst body odor of her entire life which, considering she's at a wrestling show, is fair and probably an understatement.

Violet Nyte might be my favorite new wrestler just on vibes alone. Good theme music, shitty attitude, looks very cool... check, check, and check.

Nahir Robles was first eliminated which worked out because she really didn't wrestle with the same gusto as the other women in the match. And I think I'd be okay never seeing an X-Pac X-Factor again for the rest of my life, despite loving X-Pac.

Violet Nyte was eliminated second which goes to show that I'm able to curse someone via rooting for them across the Atlantic Ocean. My powers are growing!

Anita Vaughan and Alexxis Falcon had a fun sprint to wrap things up with Falcon sneaking out a win with a hint of chicanery. I wouldn't mind seeing those two one-on-one for 15 minutes sometime, and I definitely want to see more Anita Vaughan matches.

Kay Lee Ray vs Safire Reed

The main event of the show was Kay Lee Ray vs Safire Reed. Kay Lee, coming off of a loss to Miyu Yamashita last week, was looking for a way into Clockwork Carnage to earn another shot at an EVE championship. Reed, on the other hand, was riding the momentum of a victory in an 8-person tag match.

I'm finding myself really enjoying Hyper Active both as singles wrestlers and as tag wrestlers. Both Reed and Vaughan wrestle with a sense of urgency at all times (fitting for the name), but when you think about that style of wrestling you sometimes go to a Darby Allin who takes insane chances and whose body throws itself around so violently it's like his bones are trying to escape from within.

Hyper Active, though, wrestle a deliberate, effective, wrestling style at a snappy pace. As much as I said I was excited to see more of Anita Vaughan earlier, I'm equally excited to see more from Reed herself and the duo. Gimme all the Hyper Active matches!

With just under 5 minutes left, Kay Lee hit the Gory Bomb on Safire and then flattened her with a swanton bomb that I felt. This wasn't a "gonna gracefully tap you with my neck and shoulders" swanton, this was a "you are now a pancake" swanton. Fucking OOF.

Reed managed to survive that double whammy but did not survive a double underhook piledriver, giving Kay Lee Ray entry into Clockwork Carnage.

Another week, another kickass main event from Kay Lee Ray. Who'd have thunk it!

Wrapping Up

The First Class Dolls vs Showstoppers was a nice change of pace for the Dolls from last week, where their match was a bit more abrupt and comedy-based. This week, despite losing, they got a bit more time to show what they can do. A pretty fun tag match but a super-long heat segment on Melissa Fierce that felt like it dragged.

Lucy Deathmatch and Nixi XS had a fun, quick match with Nixi trying to figure out any way to gain an advantage over Deathmatch. She did so briefly by using her fan to stab Deathmatch in the eye, which was a pretty fun bit after failing to use a kendo stick to her advantage. Deathmatch handily put Nixi away after catching her cocky opponent with a big lariat and a frog splash.

Deathmatch now advances to Clockwork Carnage where she could be on the road to becoming a double champion.

Molly Spartan vs Nightshade was a good, short match with no brakes. The end came with Skye Smitson appearing and, with the help of a Violet Nyte distraction, shoving Nightshade off of the second rope to allow Spartan to cheat her way into Clockwork Carnage. This led directly into Smitson vs Session Moth Martina who rushed to the ring to save Nightshade from a post-match beating.

Session Moth's heroism wasn't enough to overcome Skye's medical need for cheating; after smashing Martina's face into an exposed turnbuckle, Skye was able to rally and put Martina away.

I'd just like to say to whoever is reading this: I hope you find something you love in life as much as Session Moth Martina loves neon colors and Skye Smitson loves flipping people off.
